Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary
began with one horse in need
on five acres of land in rural
Florida and evolved into what
is today an award-winning
facility on 320 acres in Mena,
Arkansas. Proud Spirit is the
vision and commitment of
Melanie and Jim Bowles.
Over the years more than 200
abused, neglected or slaughter-
bound horses have lived out
their lives in peace and dignity
at Proud Spirit.
Melanie Sue Bowles is the
author of two books: The
Horses of Proud Spirit and
Hoof Prints...More Stories
from Proud Spirit.
A 2010 Proud Spirit calendar

can be ordered now; proceeds
to benefit the sanctuary. Also,
Mark, his wife, Jackie and
Melanie are publishing a large-
format photo book of Proud
Spirit, available shortly.
